Undergraduate Institution: Emerson College
Undergraduate Study: Media Arts Production Major, Marketing Communications Minor
Area(s) of Interest: Music, TV/Film, Performing Arts, Theatre, Dance, Arts/Music Festivals
Experience: Three of my most meaningful experiences have been working in different roles within the dance industry. At Playground LA, a famous dance studio in Los Angeles, I supported daily studio operations, including check-in, scheduling, and front desk coordination. It gave me a close look at the environment where dancers and choreographers train and create. At World of Dance LA, I worked behind the scenes at a large international dance competition, assisting with performer coordination, show flow, timing, and live production. It was my first experience seeing how much coordination happens behind a live dance event. Most recently, at the WSUP Global Dance Competition in China, I supported artist relations and international guest coordination. I worked with international dancers and creative professionals, assisting with bilingual communication, travel logistics, accommodation, and event arrangements. Together, these experiences have allowed me to see dance from the studio, production, and artist-relations sides
Ideal role in 10 years: In about ten years, I hope to work as a Creative Producer or an International Events Executive in the dance and live entertainment industry. I want to create and produce international projects that bring together dancers, choreographers, artists, brands, and audiences across different cultures. Ultimately, I hope to lead projects of my own and build opportunities that allow more artists to reach wider audiences
What led you to enroll in the MSLCE program at Northwestern University?
My experiences in the creative industry have made me realize that creativity is only one part of building a successful project. I also want to understand the business, legal, management, and strategic sides of the creative industries. As I begin the next stage of my career after completing my bachelor’s degree, I also see the MSLCE as an opportunity to meet people from different creative fields and build a broader professional network. I chose Northwestern because I want to develop both the practical knowledge and the relationships that will help me turn my creative interests into a long-term career
Favorite song/movie/podcast/show/festival/exhibition?
My favorite movie is La La Land. It brings together so many of the things I love—music, dance, theater, acting, and storytelling. More importantly, it was one of the works that first inspired me to imagine a life in the entertainment industry. I love how the film celebrates both the excitement and uncertainty of pursuing a creative career, which is something I can relate to
What aspect of the MSLCE program are you most excited to experience? (i.e. specific class, site visit, IDEA fund, internship, etc.)
Honestly, I am excited about almost every part of the MSLCE experience. I am looking forward to learning in the classroom, visiting creative organizations through site visits, gaining hands-on experience through an internship, and exploring the IDEA Fund. I am especially excited about experiencing these opportunities with classmates from different creative backgrounds and seeing how what I learn can be applied to real projects
If you could have lunch with one person living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would have lunch with Meryl Streep. What inspires me most about her is not simply how successful she has been, but how long and consistently she has continued to grow. She spent years studying at Yale before entering the professional world, and she was recognized relatively early in her career, yet she has continued to challenge herself and remain active on screen for decades. At this stage of my life, I sometimes feel pressure to figure everything out quickly. Her career reminds me that education and preparation are never wasted, and that there is no need to rush the process of becoming good at something. I would want to ask her how she has stayed curious and continued to evolve without being defined by any one role or award. There is a Chinese saying I often think of: the goal is not to be the first to arrive, but to keep flowing. I think her career embodies that idea
What would you most like to win?
I would most like to win the chance to be remembered. Not through a trophy or title, but through the people I have touched and the work I have created. I hope that after I am gone, besides my family and friends, there will be others who remember me or something I made. That, to me, is success: leaving something behind that outlasts me
If you had to describe yourself in three words they would be…
