Undergraduate Institution: Western Illinois University
Undergraduate Study: Journalism Major, Communication Minor
Area(s) of Interest: TV/Film, Visual Arts, Fine Arts, Photography, Video/Digital Media, Arts/Music Festivals, Entrepreneurship, PR/Marketing
Experience: One of my most meaningful experiences has been helping build the Raydiant Splendor Awards, where I’ve supported community engagement, partnerships, event planning, and the development of a platform that recognizes and celebrates people making a meaningful impact in their communities. Participating in the ONE Creator Lab was also significant because it helped me strengthen my creative voice, develop original concepts, and confirm my desire to transition into creative production and leadership
Ideal role in 10 years: In 10 years, I’ll be a Producer and creative leader, developing culturally relevant projects across media, branded content, and entertainment. I’d also love to build my own creative studio where I can develop original work while creating opportunities for emerging talent
What led you to enroll in the MSLCE program at Northwestern University?
After several years working in advertising and paid media, I reached a point where I wanted to move beyond executing turnkey campaigns and become more involved in how creative ideas are developed, produced, and brought to life. I chose the MSLCE program because it brings together creativity, business, leadership, and entrepreneurship in a way that aligns with the next chapter of my career.
What aspect of the MSLCE program are you most excited to experience? (i.e. specific class, site visit, IDEA fund, internship, etc.)
I’m most excited to explore the entrepreneurship opportunities through the Farley Center. Long term, I want to build my own creative studio, so I’m excited to learn more about how to turn a creative vision into a sustainable business.
If you had to describe yourself in three words they would be…
Resilient, curious, and intentional.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I’d love to live somewhere that would push me creatively, like Tokyo or London.
If you could donate one million dollars, which cause/organization would you choose to support?
I would donate one million dollars to an organization that creates more access to creative education, mentorship, internships, and career opportunities for young people who are often underrepresented in media and entertainment. I’d especially want the funding to help emerging creatives gain the resources, exposure, and connections they need to turn their talent into sustainable careers.
Which leader or influential figure inspires you the most and why?
Issa Rae inspires me because she created her own path instead of waiting for the traditional entertainment industry to give her permission. She turned an independent project into a much larger creative career while creating opportunities for other people. Her career is a great example of the kind of creative leadership and ownership I hope to build.
