What led you to enroll in the MSLCE program at Northwestern University?
Honestly, I found it by accident! I searched what master’s degrees would go well with my Entertainment Management degree, and MSLCE came up. It was the only program I applied to, and luckily, I got in. I didn’t even realize how big of a deal Northwestern was until I told my thesis chair, who was somehow more excited than I was
Favorite song/movie/podcast/show/festival/exhibition?
My favorite show is Until We Meet Again, a Thai BL drama that I watched during 2020. I was first introduced to Asian entertainment around 2014, but really fell in love with it around 2017. Since then, Asian dramas, K-pop, anime, manhua, and literature have become a huge part of my interests. I am especially interested in how these different forms of media can tell stories and represent experiences that are not always shown in mainstream entertainment
What aspect of the MSLCE program are you most excited to experience? (i.e. specific class, site visit, IDEA fund, internship, etc.)
I’m most excited about writing my thesis and exploring the relationship between media, art, entertainment, and society. I’m particularly interested in Asian media and how LGBTQ+ representation in television, music, literature, and other forms of entertainment can influence culture, social attitudes, and acceptance. I’m excited to explore how creative industries can have an impact beyond entertainment
If you had to describe yourself in three words they would be…
Shy, Creative, Determined
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Thailand! I would love to live somewhere in Asia, and Thailand is probably at the top of my list. I lived in South Korea for four months during my study abroad and absolutely loved it. Thailand has also been a place I have wanted to visit for a long time, and I think I would enjoy living there because the weather is similar to Puerto Rico
If you could donate one million dollars, which cause/organization would you choose to support?
I would support education and the arts, especially programs that help students pursue the things they are passionate about without having to worry as much about the financial burden of school. I would especially want to support LGBTQ+ students and young people who may not always have the support or resources they need to pursue their education and creative interests
