Grad school is a lot of work. Essays, group projects, and all manner of research. In between all the reading and writing, it’s important to take time in between to relax, get together with friends, and just maybe even…bust out an impromptu showtune!

All this and more happened on a grand Tuesday night for the 3rd annual MSLCE Talent Show.

Students from the MSLCE class of 2018 got a chance to take advantage of their artistic backgrounds including, dance, theater, music, fine arts, and strut their performance stuff at Prairie Moon in Evanston.

We kicked off with a big welcome from emcee for the evening Nick Roman (not without a little well natured MSLCE roasting). Nick then led off the performances, singing a beautiful rendition of one of his old musical favorites, “On the Street Where You Live” from the musical My Fair Lady. Then, with her bright pink electric guitar, student Kayla DeSouza performed one of her favorite songs, “Wonderful” by Lianne La Havas.

Between food and drink the night evolved into a karaoke extravaganza. Performances ran the gamut with hits such as Say My Name (Destinys Child) performed by Saba Ottman and yours truly, Hey Ya (Outkast) enthusiastically performed by Tate Glover, and of course No Scrubs (TLC) performed ardently by the whole gang.

The highlight of the evening however came from student Will Wermerskirchen, who after a short (and hilarious) preface, performed Little Town from the musical adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Wermerskirchen not only admirably sang the part of Belle, but of every single member of the ensemble, a cast consisting of upwards of 30 people.

Suffice to say, the 3rd MSLCE talent show was a huge success. Good food, great friends, and a plethora of entertainment to be had.
